There’s also a bit of chatter and laughter shared over morning tea.
Lyn McKinlay and Audrey Richardson have once again started up their monthly pilgrimage to the library to knit beanies and other items for good causes.
Lyn is a one woman production line of beanies, socks and scarves which get distributed around the country to kids with cancer.
Audrey has been busy knitting tiny outfits for premature babies.
“I like knitting,” said Lyn.
“People say ‘my you knit quick,’ and they stand and watch and can’t believe it.”
Lyn has been knitting since she was a child, she was taught by her mum and says both her mum and sister were “crafty people.”
Audrey was just six or seven when her grandmother taught her to knit socks on four needles.
Both ladies say they find knitting peaceful and can happily knit while watching television.
Lyn and Audrey want others to join them at their monthly library sessions and they are more than happy to pass on their skills.
“If you are a beginner just come along with your knitting needles and you can get help to knit whatever you like,” said Lyn.
Unwanted wool is also sought by Lyn and Audrey, just drop it into the library and the ladies will whip up something warm and comfortable for a child who needs it.
Wool can also be dropped off at the Wingham CWA rooms on Thursday mornings from 9am-11.30am.
The Wingham Library Knitting Group meets the second Friday of the month from 10am-11.30am – all welcome.
