When I was growing up in Brisbane in the 1960s the Country-Liberal government passed a law that prevented peanut spread jars from being labelled as peanut butter. They insisted on peanut paste, presumably so that the cows wouldn't get confused .

Now I read that the dairy industry wants to stop 'milk substitutes' from being called milk. Almond milk, soy milk etc .
I would have thought that the education departments would have had adequate time to work out a curriculum to educate the cows appropriately .
While I have no objection to a 'sugar tax' on soft drinks, there are plenty of supermarket products with a much higher percentage of sugar in them. Muesli with 23 per cent and a 4-star rating, dried fruits, jams and ginger with 60 per cent plus, and even quality dark chocolate with 24 per cent .
And quality fruit juices have a similar, or in some cases a greater, percentage of sugar .
I suppose the government has to be seen to be doing something ...
