On Monday, February 27, I was going to work in the garden at the Wingham Railway Station.

There was a young man there waiting for the train when I arrived. We struck up a conversation. He wanted to know if I was going to do some gardening. My answer was, “Yes, are you going to help me?”
Straight away the answer was, “Yes, I can help.” He picked up my mattock and asked where I wanted the holes for my plants. We then proceeded to plant all my plants and chatted on.
He was a young man visiting his girlfriend who is a teacher at the Wingham Brush School and he was on his way back to Wollongong and goes to university at Armidale.
I just wanted space in the Chronicle to say how wonderful it was to meet this young man. I have had lots of people stop and say how nice the garden is. My reply is always “we need helpers,” but no-one wants to help. This young man just helped without any hestitation. I would not let him plant anything as I did not want him getting dirty to go on the train.
Then the MidCoast Council workers arrived to mow and whipper snip. How great it all looked when we finished. Trevor, one of the workers, did a great job whipper snipping and got rid of all the rubbish up towards the bridge and along the platform fence. The mower man finished off by mowing all the lawns. It has never looked so good.
My thanks to the MidCoast Council men, but a great big thank you to the young man for his contribution. I wish him all the best with his studies.
