A day of celebration was held at Killabakh Hall to mark the occasion, with almost 70 members in attendance.
As this was the first get together of the new year, much chatter and laughter was had over morning tea before the formalities began.
The members were treated to a photo presentation, looking back over the years - the garden visits, coach trips away, club meetings and social get to-gethers, and a nostalgic reminder of many of the founding and early members.
Killabakh Garden Club was started in 1987 by local gardener, Ann McKern, with a vision to create a club based on friendship, mutual support and the enjoyment of gardening.
“In my 14 years as president, I have seen growth and change in the club, most notably in the size of our membership, but the core values and ideals set down by our founding members have remained unchanged. As they say in the classics - if it ain’t broke - don’t fix it.” Current president, George Hoad, commented at the birthday celebration.
A huge birthday cake to acknowledge the occasion was cut by George and founding member Brenda Swannack.
The cake was served as dessert, following a tasty buffet lunch.
The club’s AGM was also held on the day, with office bearers for 2017 elected and activities for the coming year presented and very well received.
This year promises to be another blooming good year for this vibrant local club, always full of flowers, fun and friendship through gardening.
