Crystal Humphreys and Heidi Eijkman are organising the clean up and inviting the community to participate.
Crystal was looking through her Facebook feed and saw a post about a Clean Up Australia Day site in Old Bar, and went looking for a site in Wingham. There wasn’t one.
So she did something about it – she went to the official website and registered Chrissy Gollan Park in Wingham as a site.
It’s not just community pride that is a factor in a decision, although that is part of it.
“We both have two young kids, and we think it’s important to teach them right from wrong. It’s an extension of what they have been learning in preschool about rubbish and recycling,” Crystal says.
“It gets you out of the house and away from the telly, too!” Heidi says. “And it’s a great way to bring the community together and meet new people.”
Clean Up Australia Day takes place on Sunday, March 5. Crystal and Heidi have set the time at 8.30am to beat the heat and it will run until 12pm. However you don’t have to stay the entire time.
“Come and help as long as you want,” Crystal says. “Bring a hat, a drink, and a smile and enjoy the feeling of knowing that your helping to make a difference in our community.”
You can register as a participant by joining the Chrissy Gollan Park site at http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/Chrissy+Gollan+Park, or just turn up on the morning and sign in. Gloves and bags are supplied.
Chrissy Gollan Park is on Wingham Road at the entrance to Wingham, before the Cedar Party Creek Bridge.
Caffreys Hat residents can meet at Caffreys Flat Hall 10am to sign on and clean up along Nowendoc Road where and when suits.
