The Wingham Swimming Club NSW Mid North Coast Swimming Qualifying Carnival on Saturday February 11 attracted 88 competitors from Wingham, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Woy Woy, Kempsey, Macksville, Newcastle, Forster, Laurieton, Taree.
Official times at time of reporting have not been released, however, Wingham Race Secretary, Robyn Wicks has confirmed that 165 personal best times were set on the day. Some competitors including Wingham’s Lucas Kloosterhof achieved two PB's, and qualified for NSW Swimming Country Championships to be held in Homebush.
The sponsorship this year was inspiring as businesses continue to support the annual qualifying carnival – a major event which for many swimmers is the final race for achieving the required time.
Getting improved times was hard to achieve in the gruelling heat which sapped energy and warmed the water. But swimming on and achieving is what makes these athletes some of the best in the state. Even more impressive were the 15 entrants in the 8/u categories. Young swimmers with great attitude, eight of them from Wingham, who put their full effort into this experience.
