Volunteers from the Wingham community are invited to help out with Whiddon’s creative ageing program, HenPower.

HenPower sees residents nurturing hens and participating in social and creative activities based around hen keeping. But it’s much more than keeping chooks, it also helps to tackle health issues and improve wellbeing for older people.

Whiddon Wingham’s director Care Services, Ms Leonie Burke, is inviting community members to join Wingham’s HenPower program and make a real difference to the lives of older people in their community.

“HenPower not only brings health benefits for residents, it’s a whole lot of fun for everyone. Our much-loved hens Petal, Penny, Polly and Blossom are now part of the furniture and bring joy to those they meet,” Ms Burke says.

“We’re looking for volunteers to join us in delivering this fantastic program. It could be through helping with daily tasks such as collecting eggs and caring for our chickens, or art, social and community engagement activities.

”However our volunteers choose to contribute, there are many opportunities to get creative and make a difference.

“Becoming a volunteer with us can be a wonderful journey. Learning new skills, meeting new friends and knowing you have enriched someone’s life can be a very rewarding experience,” Ms Burke says.
