The 15-strong team, made up of both men and women, spent the last six months of 2016 labouring hard to improve the look and feel of the club.
A special graduation barbecue was held earlier this month to thank the crew for their efforts.
“I think they’ve done a fantastic job,” said ETC Mid North Coast Work for the Dole advisor, June Bulmer.
“They completely painted throughout and did a really brilliant job of gyprocking.”
So happy was Wingham Golf Club manager Gary Considine that plans are in place for another Work for the Dole crew to complete more projects.
“We are re-applying for later this year,” Gary confirmed.
“There’s always more to do.”
But it wasn’t just the job seekers getting their hands dirty.
Wingham Golf Club members couldn’t resist lending a hand and soon enough the job seekers had their own crew of helpers.
“They all started rallying around and I think some good friendships were forged.” Gary said.
Work for the Dole is an Australian Government initiative which offers job seekers the opportunity to gain new skills as well as serving to motivate them to go to work every day.
Most of the job seekers taking part in the scheme have been unemployed for at least 12 months.
With six months of solid work now behind then, the job seekers will now intensify their efforts to find paid employment on a case management basis.
Refurbishments at the club so far includes paintwork, gyprocking, flooring and some LED lighting.
Tradesmen will complete the finishing touches including laying new carpet and polishing the timber floors.
