Cricket
The cricket season has started up again in the Manning area and Mount George played Old Bar at Rec 4 ground on Saturday.
Old Bar batted first and were 6/106 at the end of their 20 overs.
Mt George went to bat but the weather was not kind to them I’m afraid. The heavens opened when they were 3/25 and still had most of their 20 overs to go.
Unfortunately, the game was called off, but we do have the results of our fielding.
P. Carey managed to take a wicket, as did G. Chapman, while M. King and M. Gibson each took two wickets.
Catches were taken by M. Gibson, A. Urquhart and M. King, who each had one to their credit.
Gibson thought he was playing in the “KFC Big Bash” game and hit his wicket when he was batting, which has happened so many times in this year’s inter-state games.
I don’t know who or where they play next Saturday, but we hope they have better weather, some “Big Bash” hits and a good game.
Bush fire season
Please remember that this is the official bush fire season and, if you need to burn off at any time, you must get a permit.
The permit does not give you the right to just burn off when you feel like it.
There are rules attached, so please have the person who issues your permit explain them to you before you go off and light your fire.
Please do not burn off in town or a built-up area without your permit, which costs you nothing.
Also be sure to inform your neighbours, i.e. anyone within the area which might be affected by smoke or fumes, at least 24 hours in advance. Smoke can be very harmful to people and animals.
Do not burn off on windy days. Do not burn on days declared “no burn days” by the Rural Fire Service.
Make very sure your fire cannot get away from you, as you will be held liable for any damage to buildings or property, such as fodder for animals, should your fire travel to someone else’s property.
There are more conditions than these, but it would take too much time for me to write them all out and Fire Control in Taree can supply them.
Use your common sense.
Our brigade has been called out four or five times to legal burn-offs and, as some the members travel up to 15 kilometres to the station, it can be annoying, especially late at night.
