There was no red carpet in sight but plenty of Australian reality show celebrities dressed in red Santa suits dropped by the city on Saturday to play their part in breaking the record for most skydive tandem parachute jumps in eight hours.
Helping to raise money for children’s charity Camp Quality while enjoying a thrilling skydive experience also encouraged contestants from The Bachelor and Australian Survivor to take the plunge from 10,000 feet with Skydive Australia instructors..
Australian Survivor contestant Felicity told the Mercury it was the ‘’best experience of her life’’.
‘’I was freaking out before but I’m so glad I did it. It’s the best feeling ever,’’ she said.
Fellow contestant Jennah-Louise, an experienced skydiver, with five jumps to her name, had to convince Felicity and 2016 survivors Phoebe and Sam Webb to take the plunge.
Webb said helping raise funds for Camp Quality convinced him to take to the skies and jump out of a plane.
This view was supported by The Bachelor girls Olena Khamula, Kiki Morris, Keira Maguire and Noni Janur.
Morris said she jumped at the chance to support a good cause and get the opportunity to finally jump out of a plane.
‘It’s great to see everyone here has a big smile on their face and it is a really encouraging feeling knowing all these people want to do something for the greater good,’’ she said.
Janur said she may have missed out on getting a date with Bachelor Richie but getting a skydiving ‘’group date’’ with her ‘’girls’’ more than made up for it.
‘’I like to live life to the fullest and thought I’d get a chance to jump out of the plane during The Bachelor. That didn’t happen but I’m so glad to be jumping today and supporting a great cause,’’ she said.
Andrew Daddo was another television personality who was glad to support the RedBalloon initiative.
Daddo even managed to convince his 76-year-old mother Bronwen Daddo to jump out of a plane for the first time – not that she needed much convincing.
‘’When I asked her she said she would call me back the next day. Twenty minutes later she called to say yes,’’ Daddo said.
‘’It was brilliant doing it with my mum.’’
For the record RedBalloon raised $5000 for Camp Quality and the record of 94 was smashed, with 155 successful skydive tandem parachute jumps completed under the watchful gaze of Guinness World Records official adjudicator Lucia Sinigagliesi.
