Now it’s Wingham’s turn to benefit from our local Rotary Club’s plans to erect a fitness station in our town.
The plans are to erect four exercise machines plus a shade sail in a corner of Central Park.
Local Rotary members harnessed the support of Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead to receive the $30,000 funding needed to complete the project.
On Monday, December 12 Mr Bromhead met with Rotary Club members in Central Park to announce that the funding has been secured with NSW Premier Mike Baird and Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro onboard to fund the development.
“I’m so pleased to be able to stand here today and announce that we’ve secured the necessary $30,000 to undertake the project,” Mr Bromhead said.
“At the end of the day it is a small sum to pay if it keeps Wingham healthy and active.
“The Rotary Club has shown their passion and desire to see this positive outcome. They successfully circled a petition highlighting the project which garnered in excess of 1500 signatures.
“That is proof to me that this is a project supported by Wingham and the wider Manning Valley.
“It’s impressive to see so many members of this tight-knit community come on board to support the project,” Mr Bromhead said.
Wingham Rotary Club member Ken Patterson was instrumental in the Taree Rec Grounds fitness station project when he was a member of the Rotary Club of Taree.
“This sort of thing would be beneficial for any community. I know of people who travel to Taree to use the equipment there so it will be wonderful to have it in our own backyard.
“I think this will be a very important piece of infrastructure for our town – Wingham deserves it. It benefits kids, adults, everyone,” Mr Patterson said.
Discussions will now take place about when construction will get underway.
