Club president, Christine Gould made a special welcome to George Hoad, president of Garden Clubs of Australia (GCA) and president of Killabakh Garden Club.
Christine said that it was an honour to have George present.
“He generates so much enthusiasm for gardening and this contributes indirectly to the fitness and wellbeing of us all. He wears too many hats to list – we are fortunate to have someone of his calibre in our area, let alone representing us all as president of GCA,” she said.
Approximately 75 people were in attendance, including members from clubs from Wauchope down to Nabiac, the club's founding member, Barbara Speight, and early members, Pam King, Joy Ruddy, Judy Townsend, Margaret Duncan and Moira Munro – after 21 years obviously still enjoying the club.
“One of the aims of Ashlea Garden Club has been to encourage civic beauty and roadside development within the community as well as supporting many local organisations and charities,” Christine said.
“Over the years members have worked hard to achieve these aims and been kept very busy.”
Entertainment was provided by Warren Targett accompanied by his guitar. The gathering were also delighted when George sang three Broadway tunes during lunch. An enjoyable day was had by all.
