In July we had a glorious day cruising the Manning including a delicious Christmas in July lunch aboard Island Explorer.
Recently we joined up with the Killabakh club on a bus trip down to the Hunter Valley. On the Sunday we visited six gardens as part of the Maitland Garden Ramble.
A real stand out was Bath Garden, a young garden with parklike grounds featuring walls of hedging flowing into garden rooms full of colour and deciduous trees – a favourite being Cercis commonly known as forest pansy.
After a night’s stay it was off to the Hunter Valley Gardens for the morning which one could spend all day devouring.
The roses weren’t out yet but there was so much colour from annuals and perennial displays across the many themed garden areas. The gardens are spread over 16 hectares so lots of walking 8kms of paths in fact though we did cheat and go on the train tour.
This month the club will be celebrating its 21st birthday where we will get to see once again many founding members and also local clubs have been invited to celebrate with us. If you would like to become a member of the local Wingham garden club please contact Cath Payne on 6553 0502.
Wingham CWA
NSW Volunteering of the Year Awards Regional Ceremony was celebrated in Port Macquarie on Monday September 12 and Wingham CWA were excited to find themselves participants.
All CWA branches within the area were cited for awards. No branch prizes, but CWA of NSW is a State finalist. It is wonderful to have such recognition for the hours spent by thousands of our members in service for others.
The Wingham Branch has decided to again give each primary school a transition award for a deserving student.
Members will also be involved in another school holiday craft event at the library and will provide shortbread treats at Christmas.
The cultural girls brought the house down, at the group day, with their Gilligan’s Island skit. Don’t ask who wore the dot bikini. Marcia’s photograph of the church bell won her first place.
Handicraft continues to be their favourite day out for many, 18 attended recently. Mongolia, our country of study, continues to fascinate, so old in many ways but how modern in others. Desert nomads and high rise cities with great universities.
