The Wingham Memorial Swim Centre has undergone a makeover during winter, with the pool being repainted, and brand new lane ropes installed.
The most recent report from The Royal Life Saving Society of Australia (RLSSA) into ‘deaths from drowning’ highlights NSW as the state with the most drowning deaths.* YMCA is working hard to combat this by offering swimming lessons for people of all ages and abilities across NSW.
The RLSSA advises parents to make sure their child learns as a minimum basic swimming, water safety skills and the knowledge of how to stay safe when they are in, on, or around the water. Regular swimming lessons are the best way to learn these skills for life and help reduce the risk of drowning.
“Swimming is such a big part of the Australian summer but it comes with the risk of drowning,” said Mrs Hagarty.
“At YMCA we offer swimming lessons for ALL ages that not only teach stroke technique but also valuable water safety skills. We have a dedicated team of aquatic professionals who develop and run our programs at local pools.
YMCA NSW is one of Australia’s largest providers of swimming lessons and teaches over 27,000 people to swim at local pools across NSW and ACT each year.
As winter draws to an end, it’s time to think about keeping safe in and near the water and YMCA encourages you to enrol yourselves and your kids into the swimming and squad programs starting at Wingham the week commencing October 24.
