Tinonee Historical Society (THS) – Vice president Sue Langdown chaired the September meeting of THS, in the absence of president Jenny Cherry, and welcomed eight members. Business included notice of the society’s successful Midcoast Water 2016 grant bid for the purchase of a replacement electric pump for the rainwater tank. Unfortunately they weren’t successful with the CDSE grant but hope for better luck next time they apply.

Invitations have gone out for the book launch this Saturday, October 1, at the museum from 1.30pm. The society members are excited to have patron Carolyn Fazio over from the USA to do the honours. Carolyn and son Victor jr arrived in Tinonee last Thursday. Plans are in hand for another garage sale on November 12, to assist with museum fundraising – more details later. The next society meeting will be on Thursday, October 27, at 7.30pm. Members and new recruits are most welcome.
Manning Valley Choral Society Performance – Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall was at capacity last Saturday, when the Manning Valley Choral Society presented Tea and Tragedy. It was a very appreciative audience who gave the cast a well deserved round of applause at the end. Tinonee Hall committee president Jan Hayden, treasurer Pam Muxlow and member Lesley Tonkin served up a lovely afternoon tea, thanks to the home cooking of members Jenny, Jan, Pam and Lesley. The final performance was at Tuncurry Bowling Club on Sunday afternoon. I am sure everyone can’t wait for the next production.
Passing of Harry Ford – It is with much sadness we say farewell to well known local Harry Ford, a much loved member of Wingham Anglican Parish, and St Luke’s congregation Tinonee, who passed away on September 23, after a short time in hospital. Harry was just four weeks short of his 87 birthday. He is survived by loving wife Nancy and family. His funeral will be at St Matthew’s Anglican Church Wingham, on Thursday, September 29, at 2.30pm. The wake will be at the Fellowship Hall after the service.
Tinonee Public School News – Tinonee Public teacher Kathy Johnson has retired after 22 years’ service, during which time she had taught some 600 children in her classes. At a barbecue lunch on her last day at the school, everyone said their farewells. Mrs Johnson will take some well earned long service leave. Happy retirement Mrs Johnson.
