School holidays are here which means more movement on Nowendoc Road in the next two weeks. So, I am asking all drivers to take a little more care. We all know children don’t always remember to obey the road rules. It is up to us to remind them and keep a lookout as we drive along. We all want an accident free holiday period.

Neighbourliness and kindness still flourish in our town. Last week I got stuck on the soft edge of Black Flat Lane. After trying to extricate the car, I realised I needed help and walked to a property where I knew the residents. The lady of the house drove me to her friend’s place and he came and pulled the car onto the firm surface. Many thanks to both, as I’d have had to walk a lot further and wait for help from family, or the NRMA, (and we all know how long we sometimes wait for them to help us).
The members of our local RFS Brigade thank the surrounding brigades that came to help with the house fire last week. The home was an older, wooden structure so it could not be saved, but at least the homes around it, and the local hall, were kept safe. Everyone feels for the young couple who lost all their possessions. If they need any help I am sure their friends and neighbours will stand by them, as will the local service agencies, including the Red Cross Club. Please, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you are in a similar predicament.
If you’re going to the Everingham property at Knorrit Flat this weekend, stop by the sausage sizzle and refreshment tent manned by the RFS brigade. All monies raised will be put towards the much needed facilities at the fire shed. The Longview Farm Party is a wonderful weekend you will long remember.
Sadly, on Friday last, the family and friends of Mike Davenport paid their last respects to him at Pampoolah. He was well known and respected by all who knew him. Mike had been ill for some time in hospital but was at home with his wife Bridgit on their property on Nowendoc Road when he passed. We send condolences to his family and friends and hope that knowing we think of them in their bereavement will be of some comfort to them.
