Although he won last year’s title, 2015 was a tough year on Brown, with a long motorcycle trek to Darwin to compete in a round, and a serious accident on track leaving him with a bruised spine and a broken wrist. This year, however, has been considerably smoother for the motorcycle racing veteran.
The Wingham High School industrial arts teacher ls currently in the points lead in the F5 class in the 2016 Nationals series with two race meets to go.
The Australian race series consists of six rounds held throughout Australia. Five classes of bike compete in the series, with Scott competing in Formula 5 on his Ducati 900R.
Brown placed third in the first round at Mac Park in South Australia and won the second round at Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland.
He followed that up with a win in the third round at Phillip Island, which placed him in the lead in his class.
He is not happy with that last round, however.
Brown won the first three races at Phillip Island and was in the lead in the fourth when the race was red-flagged, necessitating a restart.
The pack gridded up for a full restart only for the race to be red-flagged for a second time as two riders had collided on course at greater than 230 kph. The second red flag meant the race was cancelled.
“I got dudded because had the race finished I would have extended the points lead,” Brown said.
Brown will travel to Broadford, Victoria for the next round on September 29, with the final round taking place at Eastern Creek in November.
Whether Brown wins his eighth title this year or not, he will not be hanging up his helmet any time soon.
Last year he told the Wingham Chronicle that nobody had won the title in any class more than three times, apart from him. He is aiming to make it to 10 titles.
“Ten is a nice even number, I reckon,” he said.
