Six players and an Irish supporter from Taree enjoyed coffee and talk of the old days at Wingham Services Club.
The players, who are all 80 years old (or who soon will be), were Bob Yarrington, Jim Gillogly, Bruce Brown, John Witchard and Barry Sky. Joining them was supporter Tim Bourke.
Wingham lost to Cundletown 12-8 in the ‘53 grand final. Dooley Collins was a member of the winning Cundletown side before playing for Wingham U/18s the following year, when the Tigers won the grand final 17-2 over Forster-Tuncurry.
Others who played during the ‘53 season included Bill Abbott, A Canter, T Collins, Robert Dallas, Wall Poole, John Unger and Fred Whiteland.
