Former Taree boy Nick Larkin, 26, and fellow squad member 19-year-old fast bowler Henry Thornton, are in the valley on a promotional tour for Cricket NSW.
The duo visited Larkin’s old school, St Joseph’s Primary in Taree in the morning, and followed up with visits to Wingham schools in the afternoon.
Larkin and Thornton gave a motivational talk to the rapt audience, promoting the value of both sports and academics.
“If you’re into your sport, and you’re a bit of a bookworm, that’s alright. You can be both,” Larkin said.
The talk was followed with a question and answer session, but the highlight for the students was getting up close and personal with the cricketers to have posters signed.
The main aim of the visit was to promote cricket, and in particular MILO T20 Blast – a fun, safe and social cricket program for boys and girls, with a maximum playing time of 90 minutes.
Wingham Junior Cricket Club will be instituting the program. If you wish to learn more, contact club club secretary Dennis Smith on 0428 525327 or email denopt@bigpond.com
