Peter Kriss and Nancy Sandford were required to play an extra game and they have now gone into the next round following their 22-16 win over Lillian and Allan Cox, who could only manage to win eightof the 21 ends. However they picked up seven shots on the 8th end to go into the lead by five shots, but from that point on Peter and Nancy applied the pressure to go on and take the game.
Chris Kane and Joanne Duncan played Leonie and Glenn Gilford with the final result favourering Chris and Joanne 24-11. After six ends the score was tied on five apiece but the combination of the Gilfords dropped away somewhat to allow their opponents into the game. This was due mainly to Glenn as lead, making sure he had the ’back’ covered on too many occasions.
Graeme Ireland and Alana Burns had a good win over Ian Furner and Tina Rushworth 26-12 and in doing so they were able to win 14 of the 20 ends finalised.
Jim Gillogly and Chris Willey came up against the ‘hot favourites’ Kiwi and Denise Matheson and the result was an indication of that prediction. However Steve and his partner were worried after the first end when they found themselves down by two shots. But from there on it was all the favourites and they went into the thirties and Jim and Chris got a dozen shots.
Glen and Laurelle Dennes cantered into the next round by disposing of Mick and Maureen Hollebone who found themselves down by 17 shots after only eight ends. The Hollebones did win the following three ends but the Dennes’s kept applying the pressure to record an easy victory.
