Wingham Chamber of Commerce Vice President Liz Jarvis is affectionately known as the business fairy godmother. Through her business CSI Business Solutions Liz helps business owners implement strategies to improve their bottom line and to streamline their day to day practices so that their experience of owning a business is an enjoyable one.
Over the past six years Liz has noticed a pattern emerge of business owners being reluctant to use their accountants to their full advantage. With a background in chartered accountancy Liz is well aware just how important a good relationship with a reputable accountant is which has prompted her to start a new venture.
“Accountancy used to be a really personal thing,” she said.
“It was like looking into someone’s underwear drawer, we knew everything!”
But Liz has witnessed a steady decline in how much interaction business owners have with their accountant. She admits it is more common these days for businesses to use a bookkeeper and let them do the communicating. This in turn can lead to major problems with business owners unaware of some of the big decisions being made about their own finances.
To help prevent some of the problems Liz has seen her clients get into she is developing a new online program called Entrepreneurs AFLOAT.

This 21 day course will teach entrepreneurs how to relate better to their accountants and aims to empower them to ask the questions they need to ask in order to get the best outcome for their business.
“I want to suck the scare out of using an accountant,” admits Liz.
The course will also teach business owners the important distinction between delegation in their business and abdication.
Liz has noticed that many young business owners in particular don’t like speaking with their accountant.
“They often hand it over to their dad or someone they know,” she said.
And in her role at CSI Liz is often left to pick up the pieces when businesses get into strife and she said it ultimately ends up costing businesses more at the accountants to sort it all out.
Business owners who sign up for Liz’s online program will receive up to six sessions one on one with her as well as a group online meet up three times over the course of the 21 days.
Limited to just 10 participants at a time Liz aims to make the course as personal as possible.
“Mostly I really want to help people with the goal of giving business owners freedom through understanding,” she said.
