Killabakh is well known for its great cooks and recently they have been hard at work preparing the menus for a delicious range of food which will be available at this year’s 30th ‘Day in the Country’.

Over the last few years, kitchen staff for the event have noted the trend has moved away from the the traditional sit down knife and fork meal towards ‘street fare’, where the visitors can sample two or three smaller tasty treats.
Keeping this in mind, the ladies have revamped this year’s menu, keeping some old favourites and adding a few new tempting dishes.
New kitchen coordinator, Chris Willey, has been experimenting with recipes over the past few months, turning up at committee meetings and events with a plate full of delicious food for appraisal – the verdict has been a unanimous thumbs up!
“I have had a lot of fun researching and testing suitable foods for ‘street fare’ and sincerely hope that visitors to the Day in the Country enjoy our selection,” Chris commented.
This year’s kitchen menu includes lamb shawarma wraps, Thai fishcakes, falafel wraps, beef nacho's, chicken massaman curry, homemade pies (smoked cod and cheese, beef, chicken and mushroom, spinach and ricotta) sausage rolls and traditional sandwiches.
Not to be outdone, the barbecue boys will also be cooking up their usual hearty fare which includes Rudi’s Kransky sausages, Scotch fillet steak sandwiches, local egg and bacon rolls, sausages and rissoles.
Meat for the barbecue is sourced locally from Wingham Gourmet Meats and Chicken and the bread rolls - fresh from Pottsy’s Bakehouse ovens that morning.
Killabakh’s 30th Day in the Country will be held this Saturday, September 3.
A great day out for all the family is assured with more than 60 stalls, an art exhibition featuring top quality works, activities for the young ones, antique garden tool display, delicious food, plenty of seating and the ever popular Red Cedar Band will be performing throughout the day.
Dr David Gillespie, Federal Member for Lyne will be attending to announce the winners of the scarecrow competition at noon.
Entry is by gold coin donation which provides the visitor with the day’s program of events as well as the opportunity to win a raffle prize.

Day in the Country will be held this Saturday, September 3 from 10am – 3pm at Killabakh just 16km north of Wingham along Comboyne Road.
