The two women form part of the Taree Gardens Craft Group, which donates a variety of handmade goods to a number of charitable causes in the community.
Mrs Fieldhouse said the pair made the blankets to help patients in the hospital’s rehabilitation wing feel more at home during their stay.
“When I first came to Taree Gardens, there was a very strong craft group who donated things to a local church group,” Mrs Fieldhouse said.
“Kath and I started knitting squares to make blankets and decided that we wanted to help another local organisation.
“Before my husband passed, he stayed in the Wingham rehab wing, so Kath and I thought it would be a lovely idea to give the blankets to the hospital, to make it homelier for the patients.
“When we handed the blankets over to the hospital staff, the staff and patients seemed very happy.”
Mrs Fieldhouse said both her and Ms Thomas had been knitting since they were young girls.
“I have been knitting since before I started school. I even knitted my own socks to wear!” she said.
Taree Gardens, located at 60 Edinburgh Drive Taree, is an independent rental retirement community with 51 units for residents 55 years and over.
