A fine, warm day greeted 32 visitors from Forster Probus Club when they visited Tinonee Historical Society Museum on Thursday, August 18.
They arrived at 10am courtesy of Tuncurry Coaches and were greeted by members who hosted morning tea. President Jenny Cherry gave a talk on the history of Tinonee and the museum, after which the visitors browsed the museum exhibits and grounds, old gaol cell and former police stables.
After society secretary Pam Muxlow took a number of photos, she led the group singing the national anthem and remembering the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan – Lest we forget.
Society members and intending members are reminded this Thursday, the monthly meeting of the Society will be at the museum at 7.30pm. Members of the society will have a stall on Saturday, August 27 at the Spring Father’s Day Fair at the Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall from 9am. All funds raised will go towards the ongoing running costs of the museum.
Hall news
Plans are well in hand for the upcoming Spring Father’s Day Fair. The hall will be abuzz with many stalls including handicrafts, baked goods, fresh produce, face painting for the children, books etc by locals; and a delicious morning and afternoon tea, light lunch and drinks for sale by the hall committee.
This is a great opportunity to come along and get a gift for dad or for Christmas, and help support this community asset. The hall committee extends its sincere thanks to the Tinonee Rural Fire Brigade for helping to remove the lantana at the back of the hall and taking it to the tip.
Schools – The Tinonee Public School P & C fundraising committee Family Portrait Photo Day is on Saturday, August 27. I hope the day is a success for them.
Wingham Parish
Congratulations to the seven young people who took their first communion on Sunday, August 14, at St Matthew’s Church Wingham. I hear they were very excited and had many family and friends present to witness this important event.
The next Soup & Soul afternoon is at St Luke’s Tinonee at 4pm on Sunday, August 28.
Safe travelling to Kara Ford and Braithe who left last Sunday, for a 10 day journey of a lifetime to China, where Braithe will be playing futsal with an Australian team.
Daffodil Day
Please support Frances Barberie at the Daffodil Day stall outside the Wingham Newsagency on Friday, August 26, as most of us have or know someone who has been touched with cancer. There will be real daffodils, pins and a special 30th anniversary daffodil bear.
