Back in 2009 Wingham Chamber of Commerce president Donna Carrier opened the doors to her dedicated homewares and gifts store Bent on Life.
“I already had homewares and gifts in the cafe but it was getting too crowded,” she says of her flagship store Bent on Food and her decision to open a second business.
Initially motivated to bring some different homewares to Wingham so people didn’t have to travel to Taree, Donna has since seen the Bent on Life store evolve over time.
Ranges have changed to suit demand over the years with the biggest evolution of the business coming in 2014 when Donna introduced the Annie Sloan range of decorative chalk paints.
It was a turning point for the look and feel of the business with Annie Sloan workshops becoming a popular and regular part of the shop’s life.
“It’s a fabulous paint,” admits Donna.
“I always enjoyed the thought of re-styling furniture but never found the time but this paint is so quick and easy to apply.”
There are 32 colours in the Annie Sloan range and another three on the way.
To become an outlet for the paints is no easy feat and Donna is proud to be able to offer the products to her customers.
In January she will travel to the UK for further training on the product at Annie Sloan’s Oxford store.
“It is ideal for this area because the European inspired palette suits the older homes,” she said.
“And you really can paint anything.”
