Partnering with the Sydney Royal Dairy Produce Committee, the Foundation will provide a grant of $5,000 for full-time study or $2,500 for part-time study, with the successful recipient also having the opportunity to steward at the 2017 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show in February.
RAS Foundation executive officer, Kate Ross, said the scholarship fosters the development of Australia’s next generation of NSW dairy produce industry leaders, and encouraged students from a wide range of courses and educational pursuits to apply.
“There is no limit to the types of courses that qualify for the scholarship – students could be studying anything from farm management, food technology or agricultural science through to veterinary nursing or marketing at university or a registered VET provider.” Ms Ross said.
“However, applicants all have one thing in common – a desire to play an active part in the future of the Australian dairy produce industry,” Ms Ross said.
Claire Frizell is a previous recipient of the RAS Dairy Scholarship and a veterinary science student at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.
“Looking back, I am so grateful to have had this opportunity with the RAS Foundation.
“Not only did it allow me to study a year without stressing over finances, but it helped develop my understanding of the dairy industry, and got me closer to achieving my dream of becoming a dairy vet.”
Ms Frizell plans to work in regional Australia. She hopes to follow her passion in managing the health and welfare of large animals and support farm productivity.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit www.rasnsw.com.au/scholarships to find out more about the scholarship and to complete the online application form.
The Sydney Royal Dairy Produce Scholarship was made possible by a donation from long-time Sydney Royal award-winning producer, Country Valley.
The Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show is one of the oldest RAS competitions, commencing with the ‘Best Colonial Cheese’ judged in 1824 at the second ever Show in Parramatta.
Applications close September 30 and the recipient will be announced in early 2017.
The RAS Foundation is a charitable foundation that encourages educational opportunities and helps build strong and sustainable rural and regional communities through a range of targeted grants and scholarships.
