The game between David O’Donnell and Mark Hammond required the marker Glenn Gilford to completely fill the card as it went for 41 ends before a winner could be declared. David got away to a flyer and lead 23-4 after 19 of the total ends before Mark found his way and then made his opponent realise that the game was not over by winning 14 of the remaining ends with some multiple results. The final score favoured David 31-24 who now proceeds in the championships.
In the encounter between Stan Burnell-Jones and Graeme Ireland it was somewhat similar to the prior game where one of the players got away early and that was Graeme who led by 16 shots after only 18 ends. Stan then turned the tables to get within 4 shots on several occasions to eventually go down by that margin 31-27 after 36 ends.
The Club’s only junior player, Patrick Payton came up against one of more mature members Allan Cox and the young fellow put in a very good effort to eventually go down 31-28. Pat held the lead on several occasions throughout the match and looked the likely winner nearing the finish when he held 3 shots to take the match except for Allan’s final bowl which kept the match alive.
Mick Holleybone excells at singles and he again displayed that in the match against Craig ‘Foody’ Martin. Mick won 20 of the 34 ends to take the game 31-20. Foody did take the lead mid-way but got anchored on 13 for 8 ends to let Mick back into the match.
