Welcome to this week’s Wingham Golf club report and for those reading this online, the weather this past week has been real winter stuff, more often than not cold and murky with a few days of brilliant sun thrown in.

Onto the golf and members on Saturday played a single Stableford for the Barry Brown trophy.
Saturday competition
Almost 60 golfers turned out Saturday and scoring was down a bit with a mere 40 points good enough for the day’s trophy.
That belonged to Cameron Potts on a countback from Paul Boyd. Hence Paul won A-grade nett with his score, as did Adam Buchtmann in B-grade with 38 points and C-grade to Steve Hatchwell with 36 points, also on a countback.
Runners-up were Reid Brown in A-grade with 39 points (two under par), Dennis McKeough B-grade 35 and C grade to Wayne Lewis with 36 points.
n the ball competition Gary Croucher picked up the last ball with 33 on a countback.
In the nearest to the pins the usual array of great shots continued, with “shot of the day” going to Paul Boyd with his approach to the Bent on Food 9th/18th.
Knowing Paul’s prodigious length off the tee, he probably putted his second shot. Other winners were Steve Abbott on the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Richard Dudgeon the Manning Natural Healing 3rd/12th, Brian Roberts the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th and finally Phil Jirman hit one in close to win the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th.
Wednesday veterans
Remarkably, scoring for the Wednesday Veterans was very similar to the Saturday scoring with 40 points again the winning score. That belonged to Alex Wilson, playing off a much more generous handicap these days. Alex beat Bill Osborne with 36 points, who in turn beat Brian Roberts on a countback. NTP winning shots were very good the best going to Adrian Yeo to less than “two feet” on the 3rd/12th hole. Phil Anderson won the 7th/16th with a good shot.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
The close scoring this week ceased on Thursday with Paul Muir playing a quite remarkable round of golf to win the chook run. Paul, current C-grade champion, whose Saturday handicap is 21, shot a three over par 39 on Thursday for 26 points to win the day by three shots. Paul’s last three chook run rounds were 16, 9 and 13 so he certainly “hit his straps” this week. Well played Paul. Of the mere mortals, James Urquhart “only” shot 23 points to relegate Tom Hadwell to third spot on a countback. Craig Harrison (the “masseuse”) then came in fourth with 22, followed by Jason Griffiths (22 Points). Rod Brown was sixth, his 21 points beating Graham Steel (the “handicapper”) on a countback. NTP winners were Rod Brown, of course, on the third and Pat Whiteley on the seventh.
Friday “Nashos” Charity Ambrose
Friday last was the annual “Nashos” charity day and a small but quality field teed off in brilliant sunshine. Winning team was that of Daryl Heywood (captain), Graham Steel and Craig and John Harrison. They just won from David Blair, Adrian yeo and Peter Tait. There was a little bit of conjecture about the scoring but in the end captain Neville, of course, got it right (I still owe you that $20 Nev).
Coming events
Yesterday the 2016 Mixed Foursomes was held and of course results were not known at the time of writing. Favourites were Neville Blanch and Denise Polley, but there were some good teams playing to keep them honest. This Saturday members and visitors play the July Taree Toyota Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical Medals and Kangaroofing Long Drives and Sunday is the Keno final.
That’s all this week so good luck and good golfing.
