The town of Wingham was certainly rocking on Friday night at the Wingham Services Club.
Returning after a 23 year absence, over 120 children had the time of their lives at the Wingham Services Club.
Many parents reflected on how their special childhood Blue Light Disco memories started flooding back as they dropped off their children on the night.
The parents weren’t the only people reminiscing on the night. The music was provided by Gary Wells from Hang Fire Discos, who was spinning the discs for the Wingham Blue Light Discos back in the 1980s.
The music, lights and a bubble machine created a great atmosphere in the auditorium, and the dance floor soon filled with children.
Prizes, fun games and the chance to rock it out with their school friends ensured they had a wonderful night. McDonalds meal vouchers were handed out to children throughout the night as awards for their skills at having fun.
The lucky door prize of a Knights supporter’s pack went to a very excited Jonathon Aiken. Senior Constable Dave Abbott pulled some strings with ex-Wingham Chronicle journalist Emily Dowsell, who now works in the media department for the Newcastle Knights.
The Blue Light Disco was bought about by the Wingham Show Society, and they would like to express huge thanks to the local PCYC team, local police, and parents for supporting and making this event possible.
Local businesses and community groups who gave their support included Wingham Services Club, Wingham Movieland, Crazy Bargain Warehouse, Wingham Chronicle, Wingham Junior Rugby League Club, and McDonalds Taree
Intentions for future Blue Light Discos in Wingham are that it will be a regular event once every school term. Plans are now in place for the next blue light disco in September.
“I know the police can’t wait to get their dancing shoes back on again, that’s for sure,” Elaine Turner said.
