Welcome back to the WGC just a week after that beautiful rain. It certainly was soaked up relatively easily. Just goes to show how much we needed it.

Onto the golf and last Saturday was the June Taree Toyota Monthly Mug/MRD Electrical Medal/Kangaroofing Long Drives.
Saturday competition
With visitors from both Wauchope and Tamworth a good field played a stroke round with the winner David Blair, coming in with a superb 86/nett 67 of his 19 handicap.
Great to see you back in the winner’s circle Dave. Dave won both the Taree Toyota Mug and the C-grade MRD Electrical Medal.
The C-grade nett went to David Broadbent with nett 70 on a countback.
In other grades, Rod Desborough won A-grade nett and medal with 78/68 and Brad Sawyer did likewise in B-grade with 90/73. The 2016 B-grade championship was also decided Saturday and in a very up and down match, Franz Schubert emerged the victor over Barry Brown, one shot in front after the 18 holes.
Congrats Franz and commiserations Barry. In the ball comp Saturday, Neville Boyd won the last prize with nett 74.
Nearest to the pins resulted in “shot of the day” going to Neville Blanch in winning the Bent on Food voucher on the 9th/18th hole. Next came Bill Osborne on the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th, Paul Boyd won the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th, Damien Moore took out the 1st/10th Wingham Plaza Butchers prize and finally, Grant Gutterson won the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th NTP with a good shot.
Wednesday veterans
Some 23 visitors from Wauchope meant 70 players teed off Wednesday in fine conditions. Scoring was difficult except for Tom Hadwell who returned a fine score of 40 points to win the day. Doug Connell from Wauchope was second with 36 on a countback from Cec Pedron. In the club challenge, Wingham’s total of 345 points was too good for Wauchope’s 304. NTP’s were shared, Alan Newell from Wauchope winning the 3rd/12th and Al Bishop flew the flag for the locals with a fine shot on the 7th/16th.
Next week’s event for the Vets is sponsored by McDonalds of Taree, with money raised going to McDonalds House, so try to get there to help out if you can.
Thursday LJ Hooker
The usual 30 odd players turned out Thursday and no doubt after reading these results, a lot of them will be “cursing a little”. For the first time for a while 18 points was good enough for a cash prize. The winning score wasn’t all that flash either, with James Urquhart a very surprised winner with just 20 points. He beat Brendon Walker on a countback with Barry Brown third with just 19 points. Then came six players, all on 18 points. George Legge was fourth, Ken Squires fifth, and Tim Smith was sixth, the last of the prize winners. Terry Woods, Ian Scarr and Phil Nelson all had 18 points but missed out on the cash. In the “masseuse” versus the “handicapper”, the “handicapper” scored a moral victory, but not good enough to win the coffee.
Coming events
This Saturday is an individual stableford event, the first of the top ten shootout. The following week is a 4BBB event sponsored by Wingham Beef Exports. This will be the qualifying round for the Croucher Fencing Knockout, one of the most prestigious events on the club calendar. It will also be a qualifying event for the NSWGA Men’s Fourball. Finally on Friday week, June 24, the nine hole “Nashos” charity day is scheduled. This is always a fun day so support this great charity if you can. Good luck and good golfing.
