With the course in absolutely magnificent condition, scoring was quite spectacular with the odd shocker thrown in as well.
Saturday competition
A GREAT field of 87 players competed in round two of the club championships and winner on the day was C-grader Paul Muir with a superb 64 nett off his 22 handicap.
Congrats Paul. Next best was also from C-grade, that of C-grade net winner Mark Donnan with a score of 93/nett 65.
In the other grades David Andrews won A-grade nett with 80/70 and in B-grade Trevor Martin somehow won with 86/nett 70 (the course is usually set up for "lefties" anyway).
Runners up were Glenn Thorburn (A-grade 78/70), Brad Sawyer (B-grade 88/71) and Gary Croucher in C-grade with 86/nett 66.
In the ball competition Alex Wilson won the last one with nett 75 on a countback.
Nearest to the pins were a mixed lot, but two were exceptional, both less than half a metre. Shot of the day went to Bob Rosevear with his approach to the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th hole.
The other great shot was that of Phil Jirman to win the Bent on Food 9th/18th.
Other sharpshooters were Brock Hynes on the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Dave Andrews the Wingham Remedial Massage 3rd/12th and Brad Sawyer with his approach to win the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th hole.
In the actual championships the leaders after two rounds are Reid Brown and Paul Boyd in A-grade with five over par 149, Dave Andrews (166) and Rod Desborough (167) in B-grade, Trevor Martin (174) and Adrian Yeo (182) in B1 grade and in C-grade Paul Muir on 173 leads Gary Croucher on 179. Good luck next week to all and Trevor, if you need a caddy, give us a call.
Wednesday veterans
A FIELD of 60 players played a stroke event.
The second round of their championships.
Winner on the day with a fine score of 65 nett was Tom Hadwell on a countback from a very unlucky Al Bishop.
Great scoring boys.
Third spot went to Alex Wilson with a nett 68.
NTP winners were former Taree United rugby league player Alan Thompson on the 3rd/12th and to Alan Weller on the 7th/16th with a superb shot to 25cm.
Thursday LJ Hooker chook run
THIRTY four players enjoyed beautiful conditions last Thursday with the winner, Paul Muir coming in with 22 points to beat Tim Smith on a countback. Third spot went to Syd Gilfillan, his 21 points relegating Ken Squires to fourth spot, also on a countback.
Next came Rod Brown on 20 points (one under par), again winning on a countback from Beth Braham. Jim Bradshaw was the unlucky other 20 pointer, not figuring in the money however. NTPs were won by James Urquhart on the third and Brendon Walker on the seventh.
Coming events
THIS weekend of course is the third round of the 2016 Australian Insurance Solutions Club Championships, generally known as the "moving round". Good luck to all. Also a reminder that on Friday, May 27 (Friday week), a 12 hole stableford in association with the Wingham Scottish Festival sponsored by Wingham Remedial Massage is scheduled. It should be a lot of fun with your worst par three, par four and par five scores eliminated to give a nine hole total.
You can play anytime Friday, but preferably in the pm.
Good luck and good golfing.
