A high profile community protest campaign has seen NSW TrainLink give consideration to public concerns about safety and the needs of its customers in the Manning Valley.
Rail, Train and Bus Union spokesman Mick Cartwright has advised the Manning River Times that following the NSW TrainLink review meeting in Taree on Wednesday it was determined "the hours of the station remain as they are" and added "this was only achieved because of the support of the Taree community and the local media."
Mr Cartwright said Taree Railway Station would keep its six staff positions "with two being downgraded".
The community fight to keep services at Taree Railway Station involved a public meeting at Taree Railway Station and the presentation of a protest petition containing more than 2000 signatures to National Party Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead.
