This year will mark the walk’s 23rd year nationally, in walking you will join tens of thousands of dog lovers across the country, all putting their best paw forward, to raise money to fight animal cruelty.
Registration starts from 9am and the two lap walk of the Showground starts at 10am. The registration fee is $5 per pet. All money raised at Taree and District RSPCA’s events, including the Millions Paws Walk, is spent locally.
“When you encourage colleagues, family and friends to support your fundraising efforts, every step you take will be a step against animal cruelty,” said Taree and District RSPCA’s branch president Sandy Brooks.
The NSW RSPCA Million Paws Walk is being held nationally on Sunday May 15, but the date was brought forward in Taree, due to a dressage event booked at the showground.
“This may coincide with Mother’s Day but what a different and wonderful Mother’s Day outing this would be, where the mums can enjoy a family day out with all of her children, including her fur-babies,” said Sandy.
The branch president says the day is more than just the walk.
“It’s a fantastic and informative day out, full of festivities, food and fun everyone is certain to enjoy, whether you have two legs or four.”
The day will include displays, face painting, dog competitions, RSPCA merchandise, show bags, lucky dips, raffles, food, drinks and much more. A veterinarian will be in attendance, and fire truck for children, big and small, to look at. There will also be opportunities to learn more about animal rights and welfare issues.
“All animal lovers are encouraged to dust off their walking shoes and come down on Sunday May 8 to enjoy the festivities,” she said.
“Even those without pooches are welcome to join in the fun.”
Organisers advise all owners with dogs who are of mature age, have medical conditions, or are physically challenged, to take the shorter walk option.
