Our libraries have used the donation to purchase a diverse selection of recommended books and DVDs, which are now available in Greater Taree City Council's five libraries across the region.
GTCC's senior leader for cultural services, Margie Kirkness is grateful for Coastal Castaways’ generous donation and pleased that our libraries can now offer these additional resources.
“Council has always been proud to support all members of our community and our libraries provide a welcoming space for everyone. It can be tough coming to terms with your sexuality, especially as a young person, which is why having these resources readily available is so important,” Margie said.
Coastal Castaways has been part of the Greater Taree and Great Lakes regions for 10 years and in that time they’ve donated thousands to local charities and groups.
Coastal Castaways’ president, Mark Power said, “By assisting our local libraries with these donations, we can strengthen the presence of our social group in this region, as well as helping those who need our support.”
Local libraries will continue to work with Coastal Castaways to build on this collection and they’d like to encourage those wanting more information to search LGBTI in the library catalogue or pop into your local library and have a chat to the friendly staff.
