Unfortunately for Wingham the lower order batting failed to fire, adding just 35 runs to the overnight tally of 5/71. Matt Essery added just a single to his tally, trapped in front attempting a sweep off Dean Mills bowling, a decision which failed to impress the Wingham skipper. Robbie Hynes and Mick Stinson added 27, but three wickets fell on 101 as Stinson (10), Mitch Niven (0) and Hynes (23) were all dismissed. Ryan Williams was last out, for three, when he shelled a full toss from Sean Carr straight to the fielder.

Carr, absent last week, claimed 2/1 off two overs but the standout trundler was Tom Kelly with career best figures of 6/34 from 15 overs.

The Taree West innings began with a bang as Paul Cox and Mills ripped 29 off the first four overs before Mills edged a Rhys Kliendienst delivery to Brock Hynes behind the stumps. Mills made 19. This signalled a change in mindset for Wingham as Ryan Williams blasted out Ben Marron (2) with a beautiful yorker.

Cox was granted a life when an easy catch was put down but Robbie Hynes made amends in taking a sharp chance in the gully off Josh Davis to see Cox gone for 23. Williams gave Ameen Khiyani a torrid introduction to Manning cricket before nicking him off for one. Davis should have had Carr for a golden duck but the ump saw it otherwise, turning down a confident LBW appeal. After hitting a six Carr holed out off Williams for 13.

Davis claimed the wickets of Kelly (0) and Pomplun (13) in his sixth over to have West struggling at 7/77. Jamil Ahmad and Brian Levi added 19 before the big hands of Mick Stinson led to the downfall of Ahmad for 11 with the score on 96.

Just prior to that Trent Thompson arrived at the ground and the fall of wicket brought him to the crease and with Levi, they guided West to victory. On 115 Levi was bowled by Davis for 16, giving Davis 5/44 off 12 overs. Mitch Niven wrapped up proceedings by bowling Jonathan Paff for a duck. Thompson remained 20 not out. Ryan Willams bowled 14 overs consecutively in returning 3/35 off 14 overs in a great effort.

In the second innings Wingham sought bonus points and Hynes was fired up when he took to the crease. He dominated the scoring, making 26 of the 29 opening partnership with Davis, who made two. He brought up his 50 in 30 minutes with three sixes and a four, surviving a missed stumping chance on the way. He clubbed a further three majors and seven boundaries as he neared his tonne, hitting 29 from two overs by Kelly on the way.

The other Wingham batsmen seemed in awe as Williams (0), Morris (6), R Hynes (1), Niven (2) and Mullen (1) fell at the other end. It was left to Stinson to be there as Hynes notched his tonne. Such was Hynes dominance that he scored 99 out of 118, but he almost blew it when dropped twice on 99, first at short mid off and then a caught and bowled, taking the single from the ricochet to get to 100, at which point the declaration came on 124. Hynes innings lasted 75 minutes and 19 overs. For West club stalwarts Paul Cox claimed 3/26 and Brian Levi 2/12.
