Wingham has a poor record against the visitors at Cedar Party and has not won over United nor beaten either standalone clubs, Leagues or Cundletown, there since Oct 2011/12.
United won the toss and batted and Josh Ferris and Matt Collier put on 39 for the opening stand before debutant Beau Reed removed Collier, LBW for 15. Ferris fell in Rhys Kliendienst second over, caught for 32 when the score was 66. Murray McCartney and Ricky Campbell added 50 for the third wicket before Campbell was caught off Josh Davis for 20. McCartney, the competitions leading run scorer, took his tally to 43 before he was bowled by Mick Stinson in the 33rd over. Jackson Witts fell the same way for two before Matt Kennewell and Tom Burley (12) pushed to total to 193 when Stinson struck the stumps for the third time in the innings. Sam Couch was bowled by Kliendienst for two and the innings finished with Kennewell unbeaten on 47 and Laurie Weeks on three.
Stinson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/24 off 5, Kliendienst 2/44 from 8, Davis 1/29 and Reed 1/33, whilst Scott Saxby moved the ball both ways but went wicket-less.
Without top-order batsmen Brad Staff, Brock Hynes and Wayne Smoothy once again, Wingham struggled against the predominantly left-armed United attack. Davis was first to go, trapped LBW to Burley for six. Matt Essery was caught off Brock Stewart after making 17 and Jake Mulled followed for one, caught off Burley. Robbie Hynes was bowled by Stewart for 13 to have Wingham struggling at 4/64. Ryan Morris, batting at three, accumulated 26 before he was deceived by the spin of Campbell and was bowled.
Mick Stinson and Tim Bridge consolidated with a 45 run partnership before Bridge became the first of Matt Colliers three victims, caught behind for a valuable 25. Unfortunately Ryan Williams was run out for four and Stinson was bowled for 41 in the following over and Wingham's hopes faded, as did the light. Saxby remained unbeaten on nine, Kliendienst made five and Reed a duck to end the innings.
Collier returned 3/26, Stewart 2/15, Burley 2/26, Campbell 1/35 and Witts claimed the tail-ender at a cost of 26 runs.
