The museum is now one of the best local history museums on the north coast and attracts over 3500 visitors a year.
The very first ‘Music in the Museum’, held on Sunday November 22, celebrated the completion of a successful year for the museum.
The event was aimed at local people as most of the museum's visitors are tourists and the Society wanted local people to get to know their museum better. A common comment is that “I haven’t been in the museum since my schooldays,” and the Society was anxious to correct this.
Music was provided by Wingham High School’s music students. The musical talent on display was impressive and kept the crowd entertained during the afternoon.
Barbara Waters, the Society’s president, said that the event was so successful that she was sure there would be repeat performances next year. Barbara also said that the Society would look at other events that could be held in the museum to attract local people.
