The Bureau of Meteorology reports: "A slow-moving high pressure system over New Zealand extends a ridge towards southeast Queensland, while a cold front lies near the coast of South Australia and is approaching New South Wales. This pattern has been drawing dry and very hot air from central Australia into New South Wales, leading to heatwave conditions in most areas over the next couple of days.
"These hot conditions will generally peak today as the front moves into New South Wales, bringing this very hot airmass right to the coast," the bureau says/ "A strong and gusty southerly wind change is expected behind the front, which will bring a cool change to the southern half of the state this evening and a mild change to most other districts on Saturday."
