A lightning strike is believed to have been the cause.
Essential Energy crews continued to work to repair the line after the outage was isolated and much of Wingham's power was restored at around 2.45pm.
Homes in the immediate vicinity of the incident remained without power as the damage was repaired.
It is understood that Wingham Fire and Rescue crews were also called after a home's metre box, not far from the suspected lightning strike, caught fire.
Many of Wingham's CBD businesses closed early due to the power outage.
