The stage has already been booked for the performance to take place on April 2016, however it is an expensive proposition with the deposit alone costing $1600.
Maggie has started fundraising for the deposit, which needs to be paid soon to hold the booking. In aid of this, MNC of NSW Community Quilters have donated a vibrant quilt.
The quilt, titled Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt Celtic Solstice, was sewn by Jenny and quilted by Maz.
Raffle tickets cost $1, and Maggie will be selling them around Wingham over the coming months. “If you see people dressed up in period costume with raffle tickets, anywhere, please approach us!” she said.
The cost for the tickets is cheaper than they were for our city cousins, who recently, and happily, paid $5 each when Maggie attended the Anne Summers Conference, ‘Damned Whores and God’s Police 40 years on’ in Sydney in September.
Maggie raised nearly $200 at that event, and garnered great interest from Sydneysiders in Isabella Kelly and the play while she was there. People were asking for copies of the play and Maurie Garland’s book The Trials of Isabella Kelly, on which the play was based, and the Wingham Museum has since sold a copy to somebody ringing from Sydney to purchase it.
Maggie says the play retains a great cast of actors, with most of the original cast joined by Rodney O’Reagan playing a judge, and Michael Davy playing the policeman.
In addition to the purchase of raffle tickets, Maggie also would be grateful for any donations or sponsorship. Anyone interested in helping can email Maggie on simplymove@live.com.au.
