Held earlier this month at the Western Suburbs Leagues Club, the awards recognise the outstanding skills, workmanship and high technical standards involved in residential and commercial construction in the Hunter, Central Coast, Manning/Great Lakes and Oxley regions.
Altez Building Contractors won for Energy, Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability, Best use of Bricks and Best use of Glass overall on the "Benbulla" house for Bob and Susan at Wherrol Flat.
This multi-award winning home has garnered a swag of architectural awards for Austin McFarland Architects but this time it was the building skills of Altez under the spotlight.
The wins for Best use of Bricks and Best use of Glass overall came as a complete surprise to Terry and Allie as they had not entered these categories but were picked by the judges.
"To win overall for both was pretty amazing," said Allie.
The bricks for the home were custom made by Wingham based Lincoln Brickworks. The bricks were specially sized and used throughout the project including wall construction, pavers and as an internal floor finish.
According to the Masters Builders Association, the tasteful use of bricks "forms a striking feature of the home."
There was an extensive use of glass on the project and many of the timber framed windows and doors were constructed on site as they were too large and heavy to be transported in one piece to the site.
"It's an awesome house," Allie said.
"I could live there myself and Terry enjoyed working on it - it's hard not to with that view!"
Terry and Allie enjoy a continuing and rewarding professional relationship of more than 17 years with Russell and Carolyn of Austin McFarland Architects.
Terry and Allie say the talented architects bring out the best in them and allow them to be "the best that we can be."
Aside from good relationships with their contractors, it is being able to work on local projects that continues to make Terry and Allie's job particularly rewarding.
"Wingham is our town, we get really good support here," said Allie.
"It is nice when you haven't got far to travel."
Altez Building Contractors are currently working on a number of projects in the Manning Valley including renovations at Mansfield on the Manning and have recently completed the new classroom at Wingham and District Preschool.
Past projects completed by the firm include the Bent on Food cooking school, the Bank Guesthouse and Tellers Restaurant and extensions to St Joseph's schools at Taree and Wingham.
The Wingham St Joeys project won at the Excellence in Building Awards in 2010.
