THINGS seem to be looking up in our neck of the woods. The weather is improving as we creep closer to spring. The potholes in Nowendoc Road were being filled as I drove to and from town last Friday and I have the school newsletter so there's some news as to what's been happening and is to happen there. Apart from that the sky is blue, there's no wind to speak of and I even heard whipbirds calling this morning in the bush behind my house. How good is all that?

School report
THE pupils in Wattle class definitely enjoyed their excursion to Gruffalo's Child going by the stories they wrote about it. The last school disco was a great hit. The results of the Small Schools' Athletics carnival were very pleasing, too. Our juvenile girls relay was a triumph for the runners in the team and Alisha Watkins won the six years age race. Well done, Alisha and the relay team. Dekoda Summerfield was second in her age race as was Maddison Beattie and Meggan Watkins managed second in senior girls 800m race. Third placings went to our junior relay team and P6 relay team along with Ryan Hardgreave, Dekoda Summerfield and Alisha Watkins in age based events while Jordan Aqualina manages third inhis 800m race and shot put.
Meggan and Jordan are both off to the Manning PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival where Meggan will compete in the senior girls 800m and Jordan is to contest the 11 years high jump. A special 'well done' to those two on their achievements.
NAIDOC Day at Bobin was a huge success once again where the pupils of both schools enjoyed the socialisation, the activities and sausage sizzle but I think the soccer game might have been the highlight of the day as there would have been more evenly age based sides playing with both schools taking part.
Last Friday, July 24, the Cedar pupils went off to see The Twentysix Storey Treehouse as their excursion to balance the Wattle children having been to Gruffalo's Child. I am sure they enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the Wattle children enjoyed their excursion.
Tuesday, July 28, the Education Week Assembly and morning tea for parents will be held at 10.30am and I'm sure the parents and children will enjoy it along with the teachers as they always have done in the past. Parent-school liaison is very important to children in their learning environment so keep up the good work mums and dads.
Anzac Centenary celebration
THE school is deeply involved in this celebration along with all the other planned entertainments so I hope you have marked the date, Saturday, August 15, on your calendars to make sure you come along to the day's festivities. I know the parents and grandparents, even great-grandparents, will enjoy the children's contributions to the day but it would be great if there was a turn-out like we had at the Back to Mount George weekend held years ago when people from everywhere with connections to the area returned to help us all celebrate. Let's try to outdo ourselves this time to show we haven't forgotten what our soldiers fought for and are still helping other countries try to gain in conflicts whenever they are needed to advise and assist.
Birthday round-up
OWEN Edwards, Justin Mills and Kathy Barbour are the last three birthdays listed on my calendar for July.
The first days of August are special to Lola Turner, Sue McKay, Pam Taylor, Wendy Wilks and Pauline Northam as their birthdays fall in the first four days of the new month. We all hope they have great birthdays with great weather, lots of family and friends to celebrate with, loads of wonderful presents and a healthy, happy year before we wish them well again next year.
A cheer-up, get well call
TO all who are not feeling the best at present whether they are at home suffering in silence (as I know some are) or confined to hospital feeling not so hot whilst recuperating from illness best wishes are sent from your families and friends who are worried and missing you. Get well soon and we all hope you stay that way once you do.
