Dr Victor is survived by his loving wife Carolyn (nee Sawyer) sons Victor Warren lll, David and wife Tami, daughter Jane and husband Jeffrey Powell and grandchildren James and Halle Powell, Griffin, Hunter, Talon and Kisandra Fazio.
The service at Tinonee was conducted by Father George from Taree Catholic Parish with son Victor Fazio reading the eulogy which had also been read during his father’s service at St Dominic Catholic Church Shaker Heights.
Mourners then made their way from the Cemetery to Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall, Manchester Street where the wake was held and a chance to catch up with Carolyn and family and share some special memories of a dedicated surgeon and a leader in his field of medicine.
Catering was a community effort with family, friends and members of both the Tinonee Historical Society and Tinonee Hall Committee assisting with the provision of food, serving and cleaning of the hall afterwards.
Deepest sympathy is extended to Carolyn and family and extended family members of the Sawyer and Fazio families on Victor’s passing. Family members also mourned the passing of Victor’s brother Vincent (Vince) Barry Fazio who passed away on July 24, 2015 aged 86 years. May they rest in peace.
Garage sale
THE Free Presbyterian Church on the Corner of Manchester and Winter Streets Tinonee held a garage sale on Saturday from 8am through to the early afternoon. Those who called it to see what treasures they had were also invited to meet and have a cuppa and why they were raising funds for local and overseas missions including the Australian Indigenous Ministries -the offices of which are now located in the church building.
At the time of writing I hadn’t heard how the day went for the organization.
Bunnings barbecue
MEMBERS of Tinonee Memorial School of Arts Hall committee were busy fundraising with a barbecue at Bunnings on Saturday July 25. It was all hands on deck for both the morning and afternoon shifts, I along with several others were on the morning shift leaving around lunch time, to attend the funeral service of Dr Victor Fazio, with the change over of shifts taking place. It was getting busy when we left so not sure how financial the day was, but the day was kind weather wise and many thanks to everyone who supported the work of Tinonee Hall.
Museum meeting
FOLLOWING on from a successful AGM on Saturday July 18, members of the Tinonee Historical Society met for their monthly meeting on Thursday July 23 when six members were welcomed by president Jenny Cherry. Members paused to remember departed members include patron Dr Victor Fazio, also president Jenny’s father Gordon Blyth of Taree and Tinonee local identity Bob Collier since the last meeting had been held.
The society members were pleased all the hard work (especially by treasurer Jan Hayden) had come together and we have now officially been granted Deductible Gift Recipient Status meaning any donations of $2 and over to the work of the society/museum are tax deductible. The new fencing at the rear of the museum grounds and along the northern side looks good and replaces a very dilapidated and old post and rail fence that was heading towards 50 + years.
The society has worked on a new flyer for the museum and these are currently being distributed to local clubs/organizations and accommodation places in the surrounding areas in the hope of attracting more visitors to our friendly little museum that is open from 10am – 2pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and again on Saturday afternoon from 12.30pm-3.30pm and would also welcome new members to join them. Membership is $10 per person with the new financial year July 1 – May 30.
