While the competition is all about the Anzac Legacy, there is no obligation to enter the competition. The free writing workshops will guide participants in the preparation, structuring and delivery of written works. Booked places will be given priority but participants may choose to just come along on the day.
The first workshop will be held on Saturday July 18 at Taree Christian College, 2pm – 4pm. Call 6553 5412 to book your place. The second workshop will be held on Saturday July 25 at the Taree Uniting Church Hall, 2pm – 4pm. Call 0427 712294 to book.
An additional four writing workshops will be conducted with primary and secondary students in August. These are being co-ordinated through the education system and will focus on developing the students' writing skills as well as broadening their understanding of the significance of this Centenary of Anzac year.
Anyone interested in submitting an entry to the Anzac Writing Competition is encouraged to obtain copies of the guidelines and entry forms available from Manning Valley libraries in Taree, Wingham, Old Bar, Harrington, and Hallidays Point, as well as the Taree Literary Institute, the Wingham Services Club and the offices of the Manning River Times and the Wingham Chronicle.
“This is an important project for the whole community,” says project manager, Mave Richardson. “We plan to publish a book of selected entries next year. It will be a lasting record of the reflections of the wider community in this part of rural/regional NSW, 100 years after the creation of the Anzac Legacy.”
Enquiries may be directed to Mave Richardson on 6553 5412 or visit Facebook: Wingham RSL Anzac Writing Competition.
