Wingham has its own national swimming champion thanks to impressive performances by 15 year old Talea Furnance achieving first place for 100m butterfly and third for 100m backstroke at the Australian Age Swimming Championships held at Homebush, Sydney, in April this year. The results of her national swim garnered a collection of six personal best times for Talea, to complete her outstanding display of sportsmanship and determination.
Not to be outdone by an older swim-club member, eight-year-old Josh Wicks qualified in the 50m freestyle, backstroke, breast-stroke and butterfly to enter the 2015 North Coast Short Course Championships to be held on June 20. The qualifying times earned Josh a first butterfly, second freestyle, third breast-stroke and backstroke, all personal best times, at the Forster Aquatic Carnival on May 17.
Wingham Swim Club welcomes new members, even in the off-season, so come and enjoy the community sporting spirit and have fun trying to beat your own swim times. For more information contact Kristen Kloosterhof on 0417 492 467.
