MATCH Report: U10's Wingham Warriors sponsored by LJ Hooker played Taree Jaquars at Omaru. In the first half the kids played really well, coach Brad was very pleased with the team as they were clearly taking on board the skills they had practised at training. Improved passing as well as their efforts at staying in their positions made for a fantastic game to watch. Unfortunately Taree snuck a goal in the second half but this didn't diminish how much effort the Warriors put in this week. Players to mention are Scott, who was fantastic in fullback in the first half, and Ari, who has improved 100 per cent on last season and earnt himself Player of the Week.

UNDER 12 Wingham Wanderers travelled to Tuncurry to play the late game against the competition leaders. With fresh legs and having only played one game in the last four weeks the Wanderers hit the pitch firing and were dominating the play. One smart play with deft passes and receiving the ball facing forward allowed the Wanderers to attack the Tuncurry backs while they were flat footed and created a great scoring opportunity that cool as a cucumber Elanor passed into the back of the net. The game see-sawed from end to end with the Wanderers working hard but were feeling the effects of lack of match fitness late in the halves. Injuries and sickness this week left the Wanderers camp only having one substitution and with Tuncurry having a full bench the odds started to fall towards the home team. Tuncurry with time on the ball were able to convert scoring opportunities into goals. Wanderers to their credit toughed it out and showed they have the tenacity and the will to improve and be a force to be reckoned with in this competition. Good team effort, special mention to Callum and Lucas for their commitment in goals, as these boys have been thrown into the positon and are playing confidently with both pulling off some good saves. Double header next weekend at home against Pacific Palms on Saturday and Old Bar on Sunday, so no purple jerseys to worry about before the game guys.!!!

SAXBY Softdrinks sponsor our U14s Warriors, and they were back home in Wingham to play against Tinonee, May 16, round four.
The team was excited pre-game, as they really wanted to go for their third game of the year with still no defeats. Tinonee was happy to take that away from them, as they hadn’t lost a game this year either.
So Wingham knew they had this, so well that an own-goal was their way of helping Tinonee with a head start. There were plenty of great shots from the Warriors, and Tinonee had us fighting to keep up with the speed. Stephen managed to run like lightning the whole game, but the first half closed with us being behind at 1-Nil.
After a pep-talk from coach, Andy, and a few refreshing oranges, the second half came back with a revitalized team. There were some more great plays from all over the field, with Mya, Kye, and Andrew visibly working hard and Jordan came in with an awesome shot just inside the 18 yard line hitting the crossbar and going in. Now we are catching up.
Halfway through the second half one of the players went down, with what seemed to be an injury, but by the looks he recovered quickly and pulled out a snack and had a picnic on field.
Ten minutes later Jordan scored again with a beautiful kick from a dot-shot penalty, taking us to the lead. With Wingham keeping Tinonee away from the goal-keeper Sam for the last minutes to walk away 2-1, still undefeated.
Ladies
SATURDAY the ladies played Pacific Palms. The game started with Wingham holding good formation. Wingham quickly scoring with a through ball to Hayley Goodman on the wing to run it up the sideline and crossing it to Amba Brown in front of goal to put the ball in the back of the net. Another goal came shortly afterwards from Anique Morris. Then Claire Bird. The game became a bit scrappy through lack of pressure from Palms. Some of the highlights of the game came from Anique Morris taking the corners and crossing the ball from out wide which resulted from a nice goal from Amba Brown and a beautiful header from Claire Bird from a perfectly placed corner from Anique Morris. Full time score five nil. Worth a mention was Teanna Peckett playing up to fill in as a sub and Georgia Duck who gives 100 per cent everyweek.
