Bulls Edge out Tigers in Derby
THE local derby between the Wingham Tigers and the Taree City Bulls was held at the Wingham Sporting Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers started well with centre Ryan Gilkinson scoring in the corner, and Michael Rees converting from the sideline for a 6-0 lead.
The visitors got on the scoreboard with a try from a lucky deflection from a kick on the last tackle to level the scores.
On the next set, the Bulls were in again to lead 10-6.
Five minutes later, another Taree try gave them a 16-6 advantage.
Again, off the next set, the Bulls ran the ball on the last tackle and scored in the corner to take a 20-6 lead into the break.
Early in the second half, Jake Mullen forced his way over the line. Michael Rees added the extra points.
Five minutes later, Taree City scored under the posts to lead 26-12.
Then a Bulls player was sin-binned, and Wingham had a numerical advantage.
Ryan Gilkinson crossed out wide for his second try, then Tim Bridge scored in the canteen corner after Trent Green ran the ball on the last tackle. The scoreboard now read 26-20 in favour of the visitors.
Inside the final ten minutes, in an attempt to get through the Bulls defence, a mid field grubber kick was snatched up by a Taree player resulting in a try in the corner and a 30-20 lead.
Right on full time, Luke Steel put up a bomb from a tap kick, and Matt Bridge snatched the ball from the air for a try, which was converted by Michael Rees. This made the final score 30-26 in favour of Taree City.

Reserve grade
THE reserve grade game was also a tight contest, with the Bulls scoring after ten minutes, and again ten minutes later to lead 10-0.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard as the half time siren sounded when Alex Studdert scored an the corner, and Nick Beacham added the extra points.
A 70 metre intercept by Michael Bailey straight after the break gave Wingham a 12-10 lead.
On the next set, Corey Sheehan scored to make the score 16-10 five minutes into the second stanza.
Ten minutes later, two Taree players were sin-binned, but they held firm.
In the final five minutes, Chris Butler and a Taree player were sin-binned following a scuffle.
The Tigers held on to remain undefeated in 2015, winning 16-10.

League tag
THE ladies league tag team scored their first points for the season with a try by Natalie Watson from a kick, and only trailed Taree City 14-4 at half time.
The second half was a procession of tries to the Bulls, with Wingham not even having possession of the football until 20 minutes into the session. Taree City ran out winners by 54-4.

Under 18s
THE under 18s game was played on Thursday night. In a mistake ridden game, Taree led 6-0 at half time, but then added four more tries in the second half to win 28-0.

THE Tigers have the bye this weekend, then are back at the Wingham Sporting Complex on Sunday May 24 to play the Port Macquarie Sharks.
