Saturday and round one of the 2015 Country Wide Business Solutions Club Championships
SEVENTY eight players teed up for the first round, also the Taree Toyota April Monthly Mug, the MRD Electrical Medals and the Kangaroofing Long Drives and the winner of the opening championship round, the Mug and the C-grade medal was young Damien Heywood with a nett 62 off his generous 34 handicap. Well done Damien, who has been practising quite a bit lately. Other nett/medal winners were Nev Blanch in A-grade with 76/70 and Ben Heywood B-grade and 84/70. C-grade nett went to James Urquhart with 95/69. Scratch winners in the three grades were Ben Marron A-grade with a fine par round of 72, Darrin Lewis B-grade with 87 on a countback and C-grade to Wayne Lewis with a 97, also on a countback.
The Kangaroofing Long drives were won by Ben Marron in A-grade and Damien Heywood in C-grade, both with fine shots. B-grade has to be replayed. Nearest to the pins were of a very high standard, the best and “shot of the day”, was by Cam Darby in winning the All About Conveyancing 4th/13th hole. Other winning shots came from Scott Polley (Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th), Bob Polley (Wingham Remedial Massage 3rd/12th), Craig Harrison (Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th) and Nev Blanch (Bent on Food 9th/18th). Balls went out to nett 75 on a countback, Trevor Martin somehow winning the last one.
In the club championships, Ben Marron shot the round of the day, his par effort of 72 leading in A-grade (0-9 handicap), by two from Scott Polley on 74. B-grade (10-14 handicap), has Josh mcLeod leading with a fine round of 80, followed by Cam Darby and Ben Heywood, both with 84. B1 grade (15-19 handicap) also has two joint leaders, Darrin Lewis and Mark Fotheringham with 87.
Wednesday veterans
WEDNESDAY last week was also the opening round of their 2015 championships and scoring was high, as far as stroke scores were concerned. In the nett however, Peter Tait “wound back the clock” a few years to win with a nett 66. “Taity” beat Wayne Lewis by three shots who in turn beat Robert Allan on nett 70 by four shots. Putting winner was Phil Anderson with 24 putts. In the NTP competition, the sharpshooters were John Thompson on the 3rd/12th (0.55 m), Rex White on the 7th/16th (0.13m) and Geoff Swaffield on the 9th/18th (4.18m).
Thursday LJ Hooker chook run
THE LJ Hooker chook run continues to attract good fields and last week was no exception. Scoring to say the least, was “hot”, very “hot”. Winner of the day was young Damien Moore with a fine par round off a seven handicap for 25 big points. James Urquhart was a surprised second, his 23 points normally good enough to win the day. Third spot was also a great score, Alex kees also with 23 points, but beaten on a countback. Young Damien Heywood showed signs of what was to come Saturday with 21 points for fourth spot, fifth to Jim Bradshaw with 20 points, beating Ben Heywood, also on a countback.
