The bridge, which sustained damage during the weekend flooding, was already scheduled for replacement with closure of Wallanbah Road planned for 9 – 19 May.
Instead of diverting funding and time into fixing the damaged bridge, the bridge replacement works will be brought forward. Senior Leader Asset Planning, Phil Miles says “The bridge is to be demolished, so undertaking costly repairs so close to the planned demolition just doesn’t add up.
"We are currently revising our schedule to allow the Dyers Crossing Bridge replacement project to be brought forward as far as practicable”.
Wallanbah Road will now remain closed until completion of the demolition and installation of the new Dyers Crossing Bridge. A detour is in place via Firefly and Avalon Roads.
