Members of the local veteran community were present at the ceremony including retired Army Colonel Eric Richardson OAM who addressed students, teachers and parents about the service and sacrifice of so many Australians throughout the various conflicts over the past century in defence of Australia's freedom.
Federal member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie also addressed the school community and delivered a speech on behalf of the Prime Minister commemorating the centenary of the Gallopoli landing of the first Anzacs in World War I.
"We should never forget the service and sacrifice of our ex-service men and women. Without them, we would not be in a position to live in the free and democratic society we all enjoy today," Dr Gillespie said.
The special ceremony was held at St Josephs Hall with other special guests in attendance including Greater Taree City councillor Robyn Jenkins, Josephite Sisters Ellen and Kathryn, and RSL members Del Heuke, Tony Ryan and Mave Richardson AM PSM.
The school extended a special thank you to members the Club Taree Band who assisted in the music as well as Alan Yates who directed the school choir in their performances.
Anzac Day is a time of remembrance, reverence and reflection and Monday's ceremony highlighted that St Joey's is upholding this tradition.
